- You do not own money, but it can own you. v24
- God owns all things. We have to act as good stewards.
- When we think our possessions are there to serve us, they become our masters and begin to control us.
- There is no middle ground.
- How does money control us?
- It controls our minds with worry.
- We obsess over how to build more wealth.
- It can cause us to compromise our standards.
- People lie to keep more.
- People argue and even divorce over money.
- Can you be bought? Is there any amount of money that would cause you to compromise your standards?
- Often we compromise in getting. We lie to get more or stay silent when we get too much.
- We also compromise in paying. Refusing to pay bills we owe and to give.
- It controls our emotions.
- Gambling, etc. addicts us.
- Sometimes we think money is evil and poverty is righteous, but God ares about our heart and how we're using it.
- How we handle money reveals our hearts. v21
- Godly stewardship of money requires tunnel vision vv22–23
- Proverbs 23:6
- Else we will grow resentful towards those who have more than us or to whom we have given more than from whom we have received.
- Stewardship has eternal consequences. vv19–20
- It doesn't matter how mucch you have but what you do with what you do have.
- Jesus doesn't care about how much money we have, but whom our master is.
- Not what we say but how we live
- The first step is acknowledging that everything we have belongs to God.
- Money is just a tool to be used for His purposes.
